I believe I was around six years old when I planted my first flower seeds. Most likely, it was a small pack of random seeds from the grocery store that I convinced my nana to buy for me. I can't remember what type they were, but I have been told that I planted them, and they grew and they bloomed! And rumor has it, they were not even expected to grow!
I guess from that moment on, flowers always mesmerized me in a magical way.
The next bit of experience I had with flowers, was actually with growing heirloom vegetables as a teen. I would often plant flowers as veggie companions and for the pollinators, and then I'd plant herbs for my recipes and salves that I made. From there, I quickly decided the dopamine rush from the blooming flowers, was significantly greater than that from cherry tomatoes. For me, anyways. Plus, my wild, hand tied, last minute bouquets I made and sold at the market were selling like hotcakes. And a lot faster than the heirloom veggies I painstakingly grew! A true passion was wrought... in cosmos blooms and zinnia seeds.
Ever since, I have been told I have the greenest of thumbs, but really, I think my real secret is that I sing to my plants. ;)
But come along a few more years with me, and now I am a mother to three feral flower children, and married to my absolute best friend. We live on an acre of land in the small town of Oxford, Georgia, believed to have been a peach orchard at one point in time. Here we are creating a home, and I am growing all the flowers that I can possibly manage. With love, and joy and, honestly, lots and lots of coffee.
But it's like I always say, "grow what you love, and the love will make it grow."
